This site was created for two reasons:

  1. People love a good train wreck
  2. Failure is an opportunity to learn

MobileMarketingFAIL is, in part, the result of coursework done by students of Mobile Media and Communication in the Masters of Communication in Digital Media (MCDM) at the University of Washington. During the course students participate in and evaluate mobile media and mobile campaigns. Sadly, there are many programs that fail, some completely and others one one or more levels.

MobileMarketingFAIL was created by Kelly McIvor who loves that mobile is starting to be treated as a medium of its own but is dismayed by a seemingly broad lack of understanding of what it means to be in someone’s pocket. However, he is an optimist and believes that over time this site will not be needed as a tool to facilitate learning and that marketers will arrive at the gates of mobile wisdom, though bloodied and bruised.
